Job Description

The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist supports the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety programs to ensure full compliance with relevant regulations, internal policies, and industry standards throughout commissioning and production operations. This role works closely with employees at all levels, as well as contractors, consultants, and vendors, to identify and control workplace hazards, promote safe work practices, and strengthen a proactive safety culture across the organization.

• Implement, administer, and continuously improve occupational health and safety programs in alignment with applicable regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with employees, leadership, contractors, consultants, and vendors to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards across commissioning and production operations.
• Provide technical expertise and clear guidance on occupational health and safety requirements to support safe and compliant operations.
• Support and participate in risk assessments to evaluate job tasks, processes, and equipment, and recommend appropriate risk reduction measures.
• Conduct and support audits and workplace inspections to verify compliance, identify unsafe conditions or behaviors, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Assist with incident investigations, including near misses, to determine root causes and develop effective corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
• Develop, deliver, and support safety training programs that increase awareness, build competence, and reinforce safe work practices.
• Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture through regular engagement, coaching, and communication with personnel at all levels.
• Support emergency preparedness and response initiatives, including planning, drills, and coordination to ensure readiness for potential incidents.
• Monitor regulatory compliance by tracking applicable occupational health and safety requirements and supporting the implementation of necessary changes.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate safety considerations into operational planning, process improvements, and project activities.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety performance by analyzing trends, sharing best practices, and supporting initiatives that reduce risk and enhance operational excellence.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to safety programs, audits, inspections, incidents, and training as required by internal procedures and regulations.

• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience supporting the implementation and administration of safety programs in an operational environment.
• Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards through structured risk assessment methods.
• Proficiency in conducting or supporting safety audits, workplace inspections, and incident investigations.
• Demonstrated capability to develop and deliver effective safety training to diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with OSHA and other relevant health and safety standards and guidelines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with employees, leadership, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
• Ability to influence and promote a strong safety culture through proactive engagement and coaching.
• Analytical skills to interpret safety data, identify trends, and recommend continuous improvement actions.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple safety initiatives, documentation, and compliance activities simultaneously.

• Experience working in commissioning and production operations or similar industrial environments.
• Background in environmental health and safety (EHS) practices and systems.
• Knowledge of best practices in emergency preparedness and response planning.
• Familiarity with safety training tools, methods, and adult learning principles.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and support operational excellence initiatives.

This is a Permanent position based out of Overland Park, KS.

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/yr.

The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, company policies, and industry standards during commissioning and production operations. In this role, the OHS Specialist collaborates closely with employees, leadership, contractors, consultants, and vendors to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards while promoting safe work practices and fostering a strong safety culture. The position provides technical expertise and guidance on occupational health and safety requirements, supports risk assessments, audits, workplace inspections, and incident investigations, and assists in the development and delivery of safety training programs. The OHS Specialist also supports emergency preparedness and response initiatives, monitors regulatory compliance, and partners with cross-functional teams to drive risk reduction, operational excellence, and continuous improvement efforts. Through proactive engagement and effective safety management practices, this role helps maintain a safe, compliant, and high-performing work environment for all personnel.

This is a fully onsite position in Overland Park,KS.
